Nelimarkka Residence was the childhood home of Eero Nelimarkka's father. It was built in 1854. Eero Nelimarkka had the building repaired for his own use during the 1950's. The house was repaired again in the 1980's.
The Nelimarkka Residence carries out Eero Nelimarkka's long-term dream of establishing an art school. At winter time the Alajärvi Children's Art School uses the premises. Various classes and workshops are arranged throughout the year. The Nelimarkka Residence premises can also be rented to Finnish and foreign artists. During the year about 10 artists live and work at the Residence. More information can be obtained from the staff, see link on the top of the page.
At the basement there is a large studio, with equipment for graphic artists. Smaller studio is located upstairs. Downstairs house a kitchen, bathroom and a bedroom. There are also two bedrooms upstairs. Other conveniences include television, stereo equipment, kitchen utensils, blankets and pillows and atmospheric surroundings.
